The Baby Suite

Our baby suite is bright, welcoming and spacious. It is divided into 3 play rooms, a sleep room, a messy play area, and there are also separate toileting and nappy changing facilities. The baby suite operates with a key worker system to ensure continuity of care is provided. Children’s development is carefully observed, monitored and assessed in line with The Early Years Foundation Stage, and a record of their individual achievements is kept. This information is then used for future planning to further progress the children’s development in all areas. Children up to the age of 2 have individual portfolios which are completed daily and sent home at the end of the week for parents to read, review and make comments on in the parent feedback sheet provided. The portfolio includes an initial settling in report, which is completed approximately 1 month after starting at the nursery. Information on daily progress is also recorded; for example, sleep patterns, meals and activities undertaken. Staff also give verbal feedback to parents when they collect their child. Each play room is designed and resourced in accordance with the age groups of The Early Years Foundation Stage. Details of which can be found below.

Baby room (Approximately 0-11mths)

Staff ratio 1:3

Our baby room is homely and welcoming, and has a calm and relaxing atmosphere where babies can feel safe and secure within their surroundings. There are opportunities for learning to sit up, roll around and crawl, and children can explore the colourful toys and equipment around them in safety.

Sunshine Room (Approximately 8-20mths)

Staff ratio 1:3

This room is located just off the main reception and is also our collection and drop off point. As the children in this room are more mobile, opportunities to further explore and move are given. It provides a safe and interesting environment with age appropriate resources; developing curiosity, co-ordination and other physical skills. The children build on their communication and language, and learn to express their feelings. Areas within the room include a comfortable book area, table top for construction and puzzles and a home corner to stimulate imagination.

The Jungle Room (Approximately 16-26mths)

Staff ratio 1:3

Our jungle room is well equipped and offers facilities and activities to promote all aspects of the children’s development. They are taught boundaries and how to handle their feelings of frustration, and there are opportunities to explore and develop their self help skills in order to build their self confidence.

Messy play area (All ages have access)

This room is located between the sunshine room and sleep room. Here the children are provided with opportunities for ‘messy’ activities including sand and water play, as well as sensory experiences, such as playing in shaving foam, corn flour, cooked spaghetti etc.

Sleep room (All ages have access)

This room provides opportunities to rest and sleep. It’s relaxing and quiet and kept at an even temperature. Staff closely monitor all children whilst they are sleeping.

Outdoor play

We believe fresh air and outdoor activities are important for all ages. Therefore we try to ensure that the babies and younger children access the outdoor environment as much as possible. Our garden is private, safe and secluded with access to the nursery limited during outdoor play sessions. There is a wide and varied range of resources for the children whilst playing outdoors, including slides, climbing frames, swings etc. On hot days shelter is provided to keep the children safe whilst they play.
